How can I find out more about the child I am praying for?
We do
not release any personal information on any of the orphans in
the homes we support. We have several reasons for this. This is
just a volunteer program. We are not seeking donations, but only
prayers for these kids. We do not have the resources at this
time to develop public profiles of all the children. It is a lot
of work, and would take more time than we have right now. In the
future, we do hope to give a little more information to our
prayer guardians. I realize that it would be nice to know more
about the child and would help you pray for him more
specifically, but for now, I would just ask that you faithfully
offer your prayers. These children need it. Most of the orphans
are between the ages of 5 and 14. Each one has a heart-breaking
story. I would encourage you to check back to the website of the
home your child lives in. You can learn a lot about what is
going on in that country and read specifics about the home.
Can I write to the child I pray for?
We
don’t send letters between the children and their supporters. We
are cautious of this relationship because of how attached the
children become. Yes, there are some organizations that do allow
this. These are great groups who have worthy causes and support
many poor and needy families around the world; however, our
mission differs from theirs in that we support only orphans.
They come from a very different perspective. They have lost
everything…their homes and families…their security. If these
children were to develop a relationship with supporters, they
would become very vulnerable to attachment loss once again. One
day, we may possibly develop a program for you to write to the
orphan homes as a whole, but right now, we are not equipped to
do so
Can I do this with my small group or Sunday school class?
YES! We would encourage you to be Prayer Guardians with your
family, friends, your Sunday school classes, small groups,
ladies clubs, or any other group you are in. We’ll send a
child for each of you to pray for. It’s a great group prayer
project!
Can we visit a church home?
~
Warm Blankets
has traditionally organized four or five mission groups a year which visit
the areas where we are rescuing orphans. We would strongly recommend you
travel in one of those groups for safety and logistics reasons. Private
trips can be arranged however. You should keep in mind that any persons
having direct contact with the children are required to fill out an
application and to submit to a background check. Please allow plenty of time
for this process to be completed. (Applications can be found under Resources on the home page).
